Grass seed muse...

So today I was sowing grass seed in my back yard. I like that sort of leisurely productivity.  It was easier than some of our other backyard projects.  It made me think about how the Bible says that man’s days are as grass. (Psalm 103) Like life itself, the epic battle we’ve been waging to improve our lawn will ultimately be lost and everything will wither.  I need to learn how to accept my limitations.

Then I thought about the parable of the sower. (Matthew 13) No matter how much time we spend marketing and trying to make the gospel engaging, in the end we pretty much have to just toss it out there for people to receive as they will.  I am trying to become more of a sower and less of weeder.

This made me think about where Paul said that one plants and another waters, but God makes it grow. (I Corinthians 3:7-8) I will never know what happens in a seed.  I am trying to get better at doing the job in front of me and trusting God to do the rest.

I am glad I have a God who teaches me in ways I can understand.  I am glad He tells stories and creates beautiful things.  I am glad He placed us in a garden.

I filled the bird feeder.  Hopefully it will entice some of the birds away from the grass seed.  Next we will decide where to make our fire pit.  When we do, I am sure God will teach me something more.
